This booklet was published in conjunction with the unveiling of official monuments in Prague and Bratislava dedicated to the 2500 Czechoslovak airmen who served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.
It is a good summary and overview of the subject for anyone with a general interest and will certainly whet the appetite for anyone who wants to know more about this particular chapter of history that the post war Socialist government of Czechoslovakia went to great pains to suppress and hide from the knowledge of the Czechoslovak people. In fact, many Czechs and Slovaks knew little to nothing of this contribution to the war effort by their countrymen until after the fall of Socialism in 1989. There’s more than an aviation book in these pages.
The tales of escape from Socialist Czechoslovakia are every bit as harrowing as those from German occupied Czechoslovakia.
As with veterans everywhere, the ones that are the subject of this book are mostly gone now and the ones who remain are fewer and farther between all the time. Theirs is a story that needs to be told.
To my knowledge, this book has been out of print for some time and may be quite difficult to find. If you see one for sale, grab it while you can!
