One of the airshows I try to attend annually is the Oldtimer Weekend show at the Medlánky airport in Brno, Czech Republic. The airport is walking distance from where I live, so it’s an easy trip.
As 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of the airport, there was a bigger and more elaborate event planned to take place on September 14 of 2024. However, nature had other plans and heavy rains flooded the airfield and the event had to be cancelled.
On September 21, I was taking my regular walk out to the airport and came upon the unexpected (but certainly not unwelcome) scene of vintage gliders and several light aircraft out on view. An entertaining flying program also took place.
The Medlánky Aeroklub should be commended for making lemonade from the lemons nature threw at them last weekend. I’m happy to accept what I saw yesterday as the 2024 edition of Oldtimer Weekend.
